The Visualization Challenge calls on developers to use data released through the MassDOT Developers page to
visualize "A Day in the Life of the MBTA." The data released includes all CharlieCard "taps" on a typical weekday in the
summer and fall, August 12, 2009 and September 8, 2009.
August 12, 2009 (ZIP file 3.9 mb)
September 8, 2009 (ZIP file 3.1 mb)
How to use this Data:
Data is available as text files. Included in the zip files below are both
fare gate entries and fare box transactions. Fare Gate entries are entrances through gates at subway stations such as
Downtown Crossing. Fare box transactions include those entries made on buses, trackless trolley, or at above ground Green
Line stops. Fare gate entries can be tied to specific station locations while fare box transactions cannot be tied to specific
locations in this dataset. Transdate is the date and time of the transaction. For fare gate transactions, a station is listed.
