Red Line/Blue Line Connector
On Friday, September 14th, 2007, the Executive Office of Transportation submitted an Expanded Environmental Notification Form to the Secretary of the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs for the extension of the existing MBTA Blue Line by 0.4 miles from Bowdoin Station underneath Cambridge Street to the Charles/Massachusetts General Hospital station on the Red Line. The recent rehabilitation of the Charles/MGH Station was designed so as not to preclude such a connection between the Red and Blue lines. The project - which will link the only two lines of the MBTA rapid transit network that don't currently connect - is intended to relieve congestion within the core MBTA rapid transit system, improve mobility for passengers, and provide increased transportation access for residents of communities to the north of downtown Boston.
