This point datalayer contains the locations of passenger and freight seaport locations in Massachusetts. This layer denotes whether a seaport transports freight and/or passengers and whether it is part of the National Highway System (NHS).

Production

The locations of the seaports were digitized from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts 1:5000 color orthophoto imagery.

TERM_NAME

Name of seaport

FREIGHT

Denotes whether or not a seaport handles freight:
Yes = the seaport does handles freight
No = the seaport does not handles freight

PASSENGER

Denotes whether or not a seaport accepts passengers:
Yes = the seaport does accept passengers
No = the seaport does not accept passengers

NHS

Denotes whether or not a seaport is part of the NHS:
Yes = the seaport is part of the NHS
No = the seaport is not part of the NHS

TOWN

Indicates the town where the seaport is located

SERVICE

Denotes when passenger ferry service is available at the seaport:
spring-fall = service is available between spring and fall
summer = service is only available during the summer
year round = service is available throughout the year

MPO

Metropolitan Planning Organization name
