MassHighway on the Move
Dear Citizen:
Thank you for taking the time to read MassHighway's first quarterly ScoreCard for 2009.
This is a busy time at MassHighway. MassHighway is currently setting a record pace for the Statewide Road and Bridge Program, more than $180 million ahead of last year's pace. In the first six months of fiscal year 2009, we have reached our highest level of highway spending ever. In December alone, we recorded the highest level of spending ever for a December, a remarkable accomplishment considering the numerous snow storms during the month. None of this would be possible without the success of streamlining efforts currently underway.
In addition to a record-breaking statewide road and bridge program, the Accelerated Bridge Program is off to a positive start. In the first seven months of the program we have advertised more than $207 million in bridge projects. We continue to view this program as a Laboratory for Innovation at MassHighway, using it to implement new ways of doing business everyday.
As the results in this ScoreCard show, streamlining has had a meaningful project on completing projects more efficiently. We are committed to continuing these efforts to save time and complete projects more efficiently.
Finally, as we await federal stimulus funds, we are more prepared than ever to invest those dollars quickly into the Commonwealth's highways and bridges.
MassHighway continues to be challenged as never before and in meeting these challenges, we will continue to focus on innovating, streamlining, and completing projects more efficiently.
