The Executive Office of Transportation and the MBTA are currently collaborating with the City of Boston to enhance existing Silver Line Washington Street service by instituting a new route between Dudley Station and South Station. A new street-level terminal at South Station will allow a direct connection to the Silver Line Waterfront serving the Seaport District and Logan Airport.
The terminal will include bright lighting, seating, heaters, CharlieCard machines, and passenger information. Dedicated bus lanes will also be created along Essex Street and a portion of Atlantic Avenue to improve reliability. This new route will serve all existing Silver Line Washington Street stops except for Temple Place and Boylston. This new initiative will not reduce existing Silver Line service to Downtown Crossing.
This project is funded entirely with federal funds allocated to Massachusetts as part of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act. The new service will be open to the public in Autumn 2009.
